It looks to me as a russian capture. So forced matched and reblued. I cannot help you on the price because I am in US.

                P38.

Hi,seems cheap but as others have said is forced matched, I should ask if the grips are post war Russian or wartime grips and does it have a wartime mag. I payed quite a lot for one of the RC pistols last year from D&B militaria and had to buy the correct wartime mag and grips, all available but not cheap. Regards David.

                  Thanks for the comments.
How would you recognise if the grips are Russian? And how would you recognise if the mag is post war? are all wartime ones waffenamt?

You will have to take the grips off to see inside how they are marked. For the mag most of the post war mags are going to be P1 so they would have a long serial number on the side and also they would be dated.

                      Hi David,

The Russian grips will have "ribs" instead of "grooves". Here is a link to some that were for sale on the P.38 Forum. You can see in the pictures that the lines on the grips protrude instead of being grooves which is the way the Germans made them.

Click on the link and scroll up.

Not all wartime mags were waffenamt stamped. If you could provide a picture of the mag, I can probably tell you if it is wartime or not.

                      Regards, Leon

                        P38 grips etc.

Hi Leon,I know of you from the rather pleasent P38 forum a great site for the P38 collector. The Russian grips on the last P38 that I bought were poorly made black remade grips that were also a very poor fit on the gun and as you say had raised ribbing and were without any markings on the inside. The other Russian grips that were fitted to one of my other RC pistols were a hidieous orange colour but were marked on the inside. The mag shown below I assumed was a post war German mag which I have replaced with a 359 marked mag.Best regards David.

                          Hi David,

You are correct. The wartime P.38 mags did not have Walther's name on them. In fact, with some you can't even identify the maker. Most you can identify by the waffenamt number but not all were waffenamt stamped.

Thanks for the nice comment about the P.38 Forum. The owner of that site requires civility to participate and we like that just fine.

                          Regards, Leon

The seller has been kind enough to post some pictures of the mag, here are a couple of them, it has a P.38 stamp but no waffenamt.
