    Skull Embelished Holster

    Hello,

Did the German forces ever attach service devices to their holster? This is an indirect veteran bring-back that has had this skull on it since returning from the ETO.

Was this allowed? Or is the only possibility that the veteran stuck it on?

    regards, Robert

What do you think - GI or German?

American GI's were fond of decorating their captured weapons with bit and pieces of Nazi devices.

Yes, they were. Did the German ever put service insignia on?

The holsters with WaA were military issue. Modifying them with such decorations was damaging Heer property, not to mention possibly revealing information if captured: ie. TK on the flap indicates Panzer troops.

Certainly true, Joe - or in this case, SS. It was against US regulations also, yet I've seen plenty of WWII USMC emblems stuck through holsters.

I am asking my question poorly, sorry. Does anyone know if the Germans put emblems (devices) on their holsters? Any photos?

...and option 3! Yes, didn't consider it but this could be a replica as well, added later on. Thanks Dave.

                      regards, Robert

No need, as has been said it's a '5/8' or '41' marked 'Monkey face' fake dating back to the 70's.

Repro insignia aside, if the regulations do not permit it, then what you need is photographic evidence showing an example of a soldier defacing his equipment. Without such evidence, one must lean towards regulation rather than hear-say from another collector.

The amount of vertigris on a brass item stuck in leather is not a good gauge of age.
