I would go for the MP40 as it will cock and dry fire and field strip. The MP44 if it is deactivated to the latest deacts regulations will be welded up and only have moving trigger and cocking lever (no cocking and dry firing, just bolt movement under spring tension) plus removable magazine.
Early Deacts are the most valuable
Best of luck with your purchase, Toby

I wouldn't worry too much about it being late or early deact. All my deacts are late deacts and all can be field stripped apart from removing the barrel. I would concentrate on which looks the nicest in terms of condition, how much blueing remains and which has the most matching no.s.
Personally, rather than buy an MP40, I think you should hold out for an MP38. Stamped ((manufacture)MP40 + MP44 + MG42 etc...) are nice, but they're not as nice as machined guns (MG34 + MP38 + MG15 etc...)
These guns come around all the time, so don't feel pressured in to buying anything just because it's offered to you, unless of course it's too cheap to pass up!
Happy shopping!

Hello,
I would also go with which one is the best condition, but it also depends on what you want to do with it, if its for display then a new spec doesn't really matter.
I also agree with Craig and that the machined weapons are the best, especially quality wise! I have put a link to my Mg34 below, encase anyone wants to see it.

Hi Craig,
the date is 1940, 936 manufacture code, and it has many matching numbers apart from the buffer and buttstock. If this information isn't what you want please let me know and I get back to you, If anyone wants any more info or even pictures of anything, please post on my actual thread, so it doesn't look like I've hijacked this thread. Oh and I'm glad you like the radiator!
Kind regards, Patrick
