    Odd K98 Foresight cover?

I've seen two K98s for sale from militaria shops that have a very odd foresight attached. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of them (didn't think to take any at the time) but I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what they are as I've never seen anything like it on a K98 before.

It is a 'blade' foresight similar to that on the Garand and Enfield No. 4, except the 'blades' taper out away from the barrel towards the top. It appears to be wrapped around the original foresight.

I've searched high and low for images or information concerning this but have drawn up a blank, hence asking here.

One rifle was a dot 44 and the other was 38 dated (can't recall the maker), so I'm 98% certain the foresight is a later addition.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Never. There is a good chance a DOT 44 wouldn't even have a sight hood.

Sounds like a VZ24 front sight protector? Do a google search for VZ24 sight protector and you will see examples of it. I see them often on 98k rifles, and they are held on with a screw and wrap around the original sights.

Aha that's exactly what I was after! Thanks muchly, fingers crossed the shop still has the 38 dated one in stock, as it was all matching numbers and very underpriced!
