    Definitely type 38. Its probably in 6.5 as well.

      I didn't think there was such a beast as a Type 99 or Type 38 or Type anything trainer....I'd think you'd go insane trying to classify all the different model trainers under any pattern other than by maker (with the exception of actual rifles taken out of service and converted into trainers like the 000 series Type 38).
      This is a neat piece, the markings on the stock do basically state that it shouldn't fire live ammunition. Training rifles are very under valued and under appreciated except for the 7/8 sized variations for children. Since this has a Navy anchor it makes it a little more interesting since so many Japanese collectors poop themselves over anything Navy related at this time

        I'm pretty sure that all trainers were 6.5. Eric hit it right on the nose and said what I was trying to say. there are no "type" designations for these. It's not a T38...if anything it most closely resembles a T99 long rifle.

            Ball park to me would be $100-200

            Standard trainer sell for $100 and less.

            There was a nice one at the local show- less bolt for $50..
