    Another Browning Herstal, Nickle plated.

    Hi,
Just picked this up today, thanks to a friend of mine he got it for me from the Vet at a gun show in Denver this past weekend.
It is all matching #'s and very well proofed, I am not sure but the grips might be added later on, they are marked FN 38
    The Magazines are proofed too..
    hope you like..

You do not find those magazines very often, German marked. But I hate to see what was done to the gun.

It was common for returning GI's to have their souvenir pistol nickel or chrome plated. The grips appear to be "Fitz" grips from the 1950/60 time period. The Eagle/WaA140 acceptance mark is late, so the pistol originally had checkered wood grips.

I was thinking "Fitz" grips as well. If anyone has a "Fitz" Grip catalogue from that period it would make a great reference piece.

                Hi,
Here is a pic of the backside of the grip, both are marked the same,
the bottom of the logo says "Chicago"...

They looked like Fitz grips, but the Fitz and Franzite grips looked a lot alike in that type grip. Franzite made a number of grips that looked like stag horn, bone, pearl or other natural materials.

                    Not Fitz:

                    FITZ Pistol Grips

                    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fitz Grips was established in 1924 with the patent of the Accuriser grip with a palm swell plate that was adjustible for right and left handed target shooters. Grips were made for Smith, Colt Ruger and High Standard weapons only. My last production was in 1975 for 500 Smiths our Govt sold to the Egyptians who demanded my ebony Gunfighter grips on them for the sale to go through. I retired in 1979 and have had a few grips in storage since then and my wife convinced me to dig them out of the barn to sell them off to assist our social security. They are available in Cherry wood and Duramite, a Nylon-Plastic blend (Very Tough) in Olympic, target, Gunfighter styles and a very realistic Stag for cowboy shooters. There are well known to your Parents and Grandparents that were competitive shooters and our slip top blood red Ammo Safe boxes from the 50's are still being used as they are a lifetime ammo box. Many sizes ald out but there may be one for your favorite weapon. fitz_grips fitz_grips@hotmail.com send your email address for information and picture attachments Thanks Paul "Fitz
