    Untouched M1 Carbine

    Hi Gents,

I would appreciate if you could give me your expert thoughts on

    this one.

It has been in my family since the end of WW2 and just recently handed over

    to me ;-)

It has remained untouched for 60 years, except for the magazines acquired

    just recently.

Thanking you for your interest and opinions.

    Cheers,

    Orjan

A very nice example of an unaltered M1 Carbine. Most of the unaltered Carbines are GI bring backs, as there was a massive rebuild program following WWII. The Carbines were rebuild as well as adding the modifications that had been adopted toward the end of WWII. The barrel band with bayonet lug was added, the safety changed from the push safety to a rotary safety, and the rear sight was changed to a windage and elevation adjustable type.
Don't do a thing to it other than cleaning off the closet dust.

                    Congratulations!
This is an all correct M1 Carbine in WWII configuration, as said Johnny.
They are scarce today as most were refurbished in various degrees after the war.

Standard Products made only 4% of the total carbines. It's a rare carbine in original configuration. Very collectable.

That's a great M1 carbine. I would love to own one someday. Also, very cool that it has your family history associated with it. Enjoy it!

                        Regards,
                        Frank

That is the way you like to find them!! That "closet dust" as Johnny calls it is a sure indication that it is unmessed with. Aside from the family history verifying same... Good you took the photos before cleaning... That way, if anyone ever questiions you, you have the evidence.
                          MOST EXCELLENT !!

Thanks for showing, Sir.. It doesn't get any better than this!!

                              Untouched M1 Carbine

At first i wish to thank you all for your comments,
i have learned much reading all your answers and
i just feel your enthusiasm which is the one
i felt discovering this beaut wrapped in an old trouser.
To tell you the small story i know, it was given to my great-grand father
as a gift when he retired in the very early 50's....
He had just spent the war years POW in a Stalag in Germany
from 1940 when France surrendered until 45....
About the Carbine i do not know much more unfornutaley,
i just remember when i was a kid, sneaking all around the house,
sometimes hiding in a closet next to it ;-)
I remember one other thing though ;-)
There was a shoe box next to it with magazines and ammo ;-)
When he passed away in 78, my uncle inhereted the carbine (and the shoebox....)
and has kept it since then, safe in another closet, that's where the dust comes from ;-)
A few weeks ago i thought now is enough, i was afraid of humidity,
moisture, rust and about the damage it could have suffered over
all these years and asked my uncle if i could take a peek.....
He did better than that, he handed it to me for the years to come....
And what you see is exactly what i discovered,
purely untouched, but you hawkeyes, have noticed all these details.
I guess i'll be hiding it in my closet with temperature control
like a good bottle of wine ;-)
Just kidding, deserves better than a closet now, a nice display
at home, for people to see and remember the cost of building,
                              carrying and firing these....
Thanks again to all of you, i really appreciate,
                              Cheers from France,
                              Orjan
