Police signalflare holster?

Need help to identify this holster. I have never seen any like this before. Is it rare? Have any of you collectors any like this in your collections?

looks very much like a shortened standard flare gun holster....does the flare gun still fit in it? I would doubt so......

Perhaps extensive damage to the socket for the base of the rod required amputation? Is the flap lined with some material?

Christen, can you share the complete serial number with us for our data base? I have 1938 E/L from 1500 to 2900 serial numbers.

Some of these were modified for post war use but others just have literally shrunk with exposure to heat and time etc. . I have a complete Heer rig that is Vet acquired. I will look at it.

Shrinkage from heat and age is a common problem with the ersatz material flare pistol holsters, but the police used leather on holsters like this one until 1942 and it held up well.

It seems it was modified for a auto pistol or perhaps a revolver.......BILL
