A political leader holster is kind of hard to locate and rather costly. Expect to pay about a grand or so when and if you can find one.

            Thanks for asking.

And I will relay the story.

However, I would like to say, my uncle did not consider himself as being exceptionally brave, courageous , or anything of the sort (the same attitude as many, many of our servicemen).

He said that there were many acts of bravery and heroism during WWII by many that went unnamed and/or unrecognized and he was just a small part of things that happened during the war.

I think he exhibited courage and bravery, however, he did not.

With that out of the way, here's the story -

My uncle was flying an observation plane (pilot) over Europe and was shot down.

On the way down, he saw there were trucks and cars driving towards the direction where he was going to crash land (or crash).

He piled up the plane and pulled himself out before the Germans arrived. As his leg was injured, he improvised a crutch.

There was fuel leaking and spread all over the area of the crash (from the plane), and he set the plane on fire, hoping it would stall the Germans in looking for him, along with destroying any maps, ect. that were still in the plane. He made his way to the forest and tried to make a plan on how to get back to the Allied lines (he never did see the trucks or cars as he made his escape).

After a couple of days he thought he was quite close to the Allied lines, so that night he took a road that he thought would take him back to the Allied lines.

Moving past some shot up buildings, a car started and pulled out, as he could not move very fast with his injured leg, the lights of the vehicle were on him before he could get out of sight.

The car stopped and a gun fight ensued. After a time, my uncle was getting short of ammo and stopped shooting. The German was a Colonel and thought he had killed my uncle and started walking towards my uncle.

As he approached, my uncle said the man was shouting, weaving and stumbling and when the range was close, my uncle shot him. My uncle said he smelled like booze. My uncle grabbed his pistol (the PPK) and some ammo from the officers pockets (along with a 1,000 Mark note) then heard another vehicle coming, so moved as fast as he could to get away. A day later he got to the Allied lines.

As a side note, I do have that 1,000 Mark note and a notarized account of this story from my father.
It doesn't get any better than this!

Great story and, in my opinion, that $1000 Mark note should stay together with the pistol.

                  Thanks to everyone that replied.

I will answer some of the questions in this post.

Thanks for the information on the holster and where I might locate one.

I do not know if my uncle had a .45 or a .38

The 1,000 mark note will remain with the pistol

Again, thanks to all that replied.
