    P38 Pistol

Hello guys, I am not a gun collector but recently have gotten an interest in P38 pistols, I have some questions:

    - How much in general am I going to pay if I want a all matching, non-import, standard issue MAUSER P38 pistol w/ full Waffenampts and 95% blue finish w/ brown grips?
    - How much would a WALTHER pistol be in the same condition and w/ the same criteria met?

I am not trying to get information handed to me on a silver platter, but just thought I'd get some good thoughts from all of you experts here in the forum as opposed to just browsing dealers ads, which can or cannot be correct. Thanks, I appreciate your help!

    Derek,

There is alot of P38 pistols out there, and price can varies between year of manufacture and other factors. But lets say for example a late war (1943-45) P38, in 95%, and non-import= $500-$700. At the gun store I work at, we sell these at this price (when somebody wants to part with one) very fast. The price is usually the same for Mauser or Walther.

There is a Blue Book of Gun Values, but it is just guide of course, and it has prices for all the variations and different manufacturers.

    Hope this helps

Thanks, that helps Jason! I should have said that this would be a 1940 or 41 manufactured pistol as well, does this affect price - early ones more pricey? Any other thoughts?

        Derek,

Walther made the P38 from 1939-1945, Mauser made them from Nov. 1942-1945.

A Walther P38 has an ac code and Mauser has a byf code. An ac-40 in 95% lists in the Blue Book at $1400./ An ac-41 is between $900-$1100, as there a varients on finish. A Mauser byf-42 (the first year of manufactur) is $900 in 95% condition.

These are not prices written in stone, but just what a price guide suggests, I have found wide price ranges on the above listed pistols at shows and dealers, but it is a good start.

A fun pistol, with lots of features way ahead of its time. If you do purchase one, I know you will enjoy it. I love mine.

        Regards,
        JasonS
