The Astra 400 IMO is one of the most underrated pistols of all time. These pistols were made the old fashioned way which means they were milled out of steel, carefully handfitted and finished. I have owned several examples over the years and it's rare for anything to go wrong with one of them.
If you have one of these and want to shoot it with the proper 9mm Largo ammo SARCO'S had a large supply on hand the last time I checked.
However; keep in mind that many of these are 80+ years old so if there's any question about the condition of your example have it checked over by a gunsmith.

          Bill,

These are very well made and sturdy pistols.
Still underrated among collectors in my opinion, which is a shame considering their story.

Bill, as you already probably know it is possible to know which branch of the Spanish Armed Forces/Law Enforcement your gun was issued and when:

I loved the manual! Are they difficult to find?

          Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

Ditto on the manual Bill. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if one ever came up for sale.

The Astra 400 is one of my favorite pistols. It is sturdy and fun to shoot with plenty of 9mm Largo ammo available.

Now, I want an Astra 300 with holster. It is a bit harder to find than the 400 model.
