SVT 40 Carbine aka SKT 40

I have always wanted a SVT 40. This past weekend my wish came true. It has been a long time since I handled one so when I picked this one up it felt lite and easy to handle (not like I remember). So I worked the trade and got her home. After some time researching on the web I noticed that my rifle didn't look like the others. She is a carbine!

    Pros
    1. Finn capture (no import marks).
    2. Kovrov arsenal.
    3. Surprise carbine model!

    Cons
    1. Mismatch
    2. 5 round sporting mag
    3. Damn I still need a full length model for the collection!

I never even knew that a carbine version existed.

Interesting rifle. Was it originally made as a carbine or shortened by the Finns?

Every thing that I see indicates that it is factory production and one of the 3,000 carbines the Russians ordered in July of 1940.

The information I have came from this web page about 2/3 the way down.

Reading more it looks like there is some controversy about the carbines. The "professionals" have been fighting over SVT40 carbines authenticity for years now.

I will still shoot her and shelf her with my other military surplus rifles.

Jim, beautiful weapon! Only can imagine what the kick of a fathoms version would be! There is a possible one on GB as well. Congrats on your find!

            Death-Ace,
The one on GB is WAY more than my rifle was. I had no where near that in the trade that I made.

It's funny that this SVT is lighter than a lot of my .22s. I bet that the fire ball will be astounding when it fires.

What kind of money do they bring these days? Its been yrs since I looked at them at the gun show but it would look great in my collection. I have always liked the look of them and the history of course is great. Would like to know just incase I was to run into one in the future with the money in my pocket to buy what should I pay?

They bring $700 and up for full sized. The carbines are controversial animals but can cost big bucks.

There are a lot of different carbine versions out there. I did find another in the same style as my SVT. It sold in 2006 for $1500 and the seller even said that he thought it was a cut down.
