In the second photo I see a Swiss military proof/acceptance stamp (the little cross), so I would say that what you have is the rear sight off of a Swiss military rifle.

Thanks for guiding me in the right direction Alan, the sight appears to be for a Schmidt Rubin 1896 / 1911 model rifle.
