Broom handle Mauser at local Gun Store.

    Broom handle Mauser at local Gun Store.

    There is a very old looking Broom handle Mauser Pistol at a local gun store on Consighnment.

    I took a look at it but could find no date. It's asking price is only 700 dollars. I am always looking for WWI dated Guns.

    Why is there no date? Can i date it via the serial #?

    Since the appearance of the Broomhandle changed little over the 40 years it was produced, was the old look a result of it's condition? Their condition can vary from virtually new specimens to the really worn and rusty Chinese imports from a few years back. $700 could either be a very good price, or a very bad price depending on condition.

      Johnny is correct! There are way to many variables to look for to determine what it really is?

        Hey Bob!

        The Broom handle mauser at my local gun store in fact is pretty close in condition as the first one seen on that site you posted. Maybe it's finish looks scratched up some but the finish loss is the same as well as the handle.

        But no date...

          You can use the serial number and characteristics to get pretty close on the date, using the site Bob supplied. I get the feeling your hoping there's a date hiding somewhere, but that's not the case.

            Ya I thought I would just want to know where to find the date. I'll call the shop and get the serial #.

              No Broomhandle was dated from the factory as it happened with the German military Lugers (from 1910 on). The oinly way to know if it is a WWI era gun is checking its serial number and other features like the caliber, type of hammer, sights grading, etc.

              Besides that have in mind that, during its long production run, there were several minor changes on its project that are the real deal when trying to get an estimate about its time of production.

                    Ronnie,

                    Nice legit Persian Contract Broomhandle!
                    Only 1,000 made - one of the scarcest variations of C96.

                    Regarding the date, it is currently believed that Persian guns were still being delivered when WWI started and some guns remain in GErmany and were issued to military units. I saw Persian C96s with the Reichswehr property mark "1920".
