    Unknown k98 cleaningrod.

    I have a k98, Dou 44.
But it has some kind of cleaningrod, does anyone know what kind it is?
And the year of manufacturing, war or pre-war.

That rod is from a post war French assembled svw K98k.

I've always wondered: what the heck is the purpose of this "faux" cleaning rod? If I recall correctly, some of the WWII Japanese rifles have similar cleaning rod-type tools in them.

It's for stacking arms, thats it.

That "rod" is definitely for stacking purposes only. However, I believe that the Japanese short rod was also used for cleaning by attaching a string to the rod and using it as a handle to pull a brush through the bore. It would also weight the string to go down the bore.
