Luftwaffe Issue K98

I have a question regarding Luftwaffe issued K98 rifles. From what I understand 1941 was the last year stocks were stamped for their branch of service (L for Luftwaffe). Was 1941 the year that cupped butt-plates were implemented?

Also, does anyone know what the value would be of a 90% matching, 75% blued, K98 (1941 JP Sauer und Sohn) Luftwaffe stamped. All help appreciated.

I have a bcd 41 98k Lufteaffe proofed with standard butt plate, not cupped all matched and Luftwaffe proofed in the metal (98% finish) no "L" on the stock.. Is yours proofed in the metal with the Luftwaffe proof? It proofed in the metal then it is a rare 98k indeed. wfg

I gotta ask a dumb question...what exactly does the Luftwaffe proof look like, where is it found. Is it a series of numbers?

The Luftwaffe proofs in the metal are as follows: either located on the left side of the reciever or the left of the bbl. in front of the serial number or on both the eagle is a stylized stick eagle no swastika with a single digit number under it.. If there is a Luftwaffe proof on the stock it will be a eagle and swastika with a L beside it.. Perry Floyd a member here took some picts of it at a show last weekend, possibly he'll post some picts of it...wfg

Cason, by a 90% matching, do you mean that there is a differently numbered part on the gun? If so, that will affect value of this gun, of course.

-However, my reciever doesn't have the eagles with numbers under them. It just has regular old waffenampts. It has a few with 37 under them, but that's just the makers code (these are found on the right side of the reciever. There are also ones with the number 359 at the very front-right of the reciever, again, makes code. J.P. Sauer und Sohn (CE) I believe is the correct maker. I used to have a link to a site that had all the codes and marking and everything that goes with K98's. It was like the K98 Shooters Association Site or something, I can't find it now. Does anyone have a link to it, or to a site that has a list of all the makers?

-By 90% matching I meant a lot of the parts are matching. The only parts not matching are the floor-plate (I think that's correct term) and 2 pieces of the bolt. The rest of the bolt and the rest of the gun is all numbered "965" or just 65 for short. The stock is also marked 965 on the under-side. Looks like someone tried to scratch it out or maybe it got hit against something, anyways, they did a pretty good job taking most of the 6 away, but the 9 and the 5 are still plainly showing.

This action cover has some blue felt,and is leather reinforced on the inside it is dyo42 WaA23, I also have a solid Luftwaffe Blue Canvas cover marked 1943 gjg code Mod. 98, also leather reinforced on the inside. (I am going to go look at digital cameras today)...wfg
