        Here are two large German shell casings that he brought back from France. These are prized items in my collection.

          Here are some smaller battlefield pick-up items he brought home.

          I am told that he also brought back other large shell casings, bayonets, and a German "pickelhaulb" spiked helmet w/plume, but that these items were stolen out of his house when it sat vacant for an extended period of time after his death in the early 1960's.

            Here is a copy of the "thank you" letter that he received upon completion of his tour of duty; it mentions his work in the "salvage department".

            I would sure like to hear from anyone who knows more about the YMCA's war relief efforts in France after WWI and, in particular, what sort of functions the "salvage department" carried out.
