Were the scopes and mounts generally marked with the rifle's serial numbers?

As far as I know yes they were

Not the scope, but the mount and can sometimes were if you find one that was issued. Generally an earlier rig as well.

So when you say "sometimes," Willi, you mean it isn't a hard-and-fast rule that the mounts are serial numbered to the rifles? (The rifle in question is a byf 43 with an unnumbered mount.)
