    Carbine ID

    Hey guys:

This is one I "tried" not to buy as I thought it might have an issue or two. First off, what is it? I'm assuming an Italian Carbine? The fellow I got it from said his Father was in WWII "early on" and sent this back. Maybe from N. Africa? He sadly did not know.

Also, is there a mag or "floor plate" missing? Sorry for the ignorance!

It is Italian car. , but you are not missing the mag it was clips which fell out on the bottom after you shoot out your rounds.

        Thanks

Well dang, I guess $50.00 was OK to pay then! Thanks for the info.

No import marks, so I'm assuming it is something a local gun show trader might be interested in.

        Thanks again,

These are neat little guns and fun to shoot if in good/safe condition and still chambered for the original 6.5 Italian round. However if yours has been bored out to accept 8mm German service ammo do not attempt to shoot it . IMO; You got a very good deal at $50.

Wouldn't it be marked if German modified?

It would likely have the added recoil lug for 8mm.

It there a German WaA on the heel of the stock?

I would buy these all day for $50.

Silly question but related. Are these rifles not able to stand up to the pressures of 8mm ammo? I've read about them a little bit but not enough to know, but has there been many dangerous malfunctions with the ones that were bored out for 8mm?

Nice M91/28. Pre-64 import. Looks like the stock had a little work and the bolt was blued long ago but still looks good. I kinda have a soft spot for those guns and am always looking for them.

I've shot my Middle Eastern 8mm Carcano. They are just as strong as as any other rifle action. It is a total myth that they will blow up. I still use a slightly reduced load though.

                    No Proof

I gave it a good look-see and I do not see any proofs. It does have a poor finnish applied... laquer or something. Anyhow, seems pretty decent other than that.

What do these sell for at gun shows these days?

                    Thanks for the input!

One like that will go for 100-150 tops. Even though 91/28's are lower on the common scale they are not worth too much. I have several different models and have not paid over 200 for one. I would be comfortable paying around a 100-125 for one like yours if it isn't sanded too much.

Thanks for the info! I used to see these advertised in shotgun news in 8mm version I always wondered about them
