Very nice! I have restored several of these and they are a BIG job.

Especially so if parts are damaged or missing.

                          Hi Guys,

thanks! It looks nice all finished. I used to be a photographer....so I am a little fussy when I have the time. But I have to tell you one funny thing on it all....everything is original....except one major thing....the Mg34 itself! It is a rubber movie prop! We cannot own these here now....so it was my only alternative. This exact gun was on top of the halftrack blown up by Matt Damon in 'Saving Private Ryan' when he is finally found by Tom Hanks. I work in movies as an armourer and got it through a friend. Great huh? I have worked it over a bit....made some improvements........but basically it was such a good casting you could read the proof stamps on it!

Seigfried....if you want to do a set like this....do not leave it too long....they are getting harder to buy and more expensive all the time!

                          Cheers, Wade K.

                            Hi John,

                            here's another corner.....

This setup has changed for me.....I needed to shift everything around....it is under my house and in fact the sandstone wall is actually a movie prop also! It's styrofoam sprayed with a textured paint called granitex...with sand mixed in....more movie illusion.
Anyhow.....everything else is real and I would like to get myself organised and return to this setup.....I have been disrupted by renovations and the arrival of a fine little boy 17 months ago! So it's a minor issue really. But I am lucky to have some space anyhow!
                            cheers, Wade K.

                              great stuff

Hi Wade the movie prop wall looks great it sets a fantastic backdrop to your collection Is there a firm that manufactures the stuff for retail or is it the work of movie set carpenters, Love the private ryan mg too.

                              Regards

                                Hi Sean,
the wall was made by the set builders at the film studios....I grabbed it after we finished filming '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' with Michael Caine. I hated to see it all just thrown out....it's made in single tiles......I just reassembled it on my own backing. You cut the styrofoam to tile (block) size....then use a little turps or heat to pock mark the face (go very lightly or it will just melt away!). Then the surface is sprayed with granitex which is used to texture walls......and sprinkle with sand. Then you use a water based paint very, very watered down to dull it and give it an uneven colour....and presto! I assembled it all again and did a little 'painting"...and it looks great.

My mount was from Norway and covered in that horrible Home Guard green paint......so I took it to a bead blaster and for no more than the equivalent of 15 Euros he bead blasted it back to bare metal in coated it with red oxide undercoat....which is exactly what the Germans used. I then had the paint mixxed from an original sample oi had inside the spare bolt box....and resprayed....once it was dry I then rubbed back a few edges and the like for wear and presto! One restored lafette. I got the sight in Estonia....and the light cable in Riga, Latvia. Actually if anyone is interested I will have a spare light cable for the reticule here soon....won't be cheap (they are very hard to get!)...but it's original...maker marked (maker was in Freiburg). Let me know.
                                Cheers, Wade K.
