    mp28 questions

    hello guys,
I would have some questions according to the mp28 :

    - does anyone know from literature the number of pieces produced ?
    - on the tube and magazine holder, there is not the typical "mp 28 System Schmeisser Patent code " , but a strange code , see the photo. Is this a export for spain or something ?
    - for how much are they going normally if they are export versions and in good and deactivated condition ?

    thank you so far

    cheers schmeisserfan

The Spanish Republic produced some MP28 copies during the Civil War, but more general pics would be great to identify it correctly.

Are the magazine well markings shown in your first photo the ONLY markings on the entire gun? No other proof marks, inspection stamps, or anything?

Obviously, if there are any other markings of any nature, please post photos.

Also: would you please post photos of any markings on the magazine?

              Thanks

Well, I know the spanish copies were made in, at least, two different places, so there were differences. I know they were made in Valencia, perhaps but not sure, in Catalonia and Euskadi (Basc Country). The first pic is of the Weapon Industry Museum in Eibar (in the basc Country), the second one is typically produced in Valencia, see the differences in the cocking handles. The cocking handle of this one looks german but the brass mag receiver is typical in spanish produced ones. Is the butt plate brass or steel? what caliber is it, 9 parabellum or 9 Largo??

The pics show two different spanish versions produced during the SCW.

In my opinion this is a Spanish MP28. The marking on the receiver is not form Germany. It's not form Belgium neither (where many were made during late 20s and early 30s).

i thought all of these earlier made ones were made out side germany ,unofficially contracted ,so the control commission would not find out germany was in the gun business again ?
                    swiss made ?

                      guys,
thank you all for your input !
I try to answer the questions after I have got the new information :

                      - the calibre is 9 mm para
                      - yes the gun has one waA marking on the barrel
                      - pics of the magazine are shown below
-the seller told me that the brass mag receiver is spanish, also the marking on it
                      - the most important fact : it seems that this gun is produced in Spain, but was exported to Germany then

I´m still thinking about to buy this deactivated gun, but I´m not sure yet

That is most surprising I know Germany sent many of these to Spain (to the Nationalists, Franco's side) during the Spanish Civil War, and then republican side made repros in Valencia, Eibar and perhaps Catalonia. I really doubt Spain produced any to export them to germany, as after 1939 it would be consirered an obsolet MP. I would uggest someone has ut the parts together.

                            The mag is original german.

I am not aware of any of the German military issue Mp-28's having WaA proofs. They do, however, have the E/37 military acceptance stamp on the receiver (as well as German commercial proofs).

Here is MP-28 serial number 17661, which is a WWII German military issue gun. If you look closely you will see the E/N commercial proof (for post 1/1/40 production) and the E/37 acceptance stamp as used by the German military inspectors stationed at the Haenel factory. The E/37 marking is located just below the serial number.
