Very nice Model 1911. Shipped March 19, 1918 to Springfield Armory.
What are the markings on the top of the barrel as seen through the ejection port?

P and H are stamped on the barrel (ejector)

There are three variations of the P and H stamps. Yours should be the vertical variation, where the P and H are read with the barrel pointed up.

P H markings are vertical Thanks for the kind words. It is getting hard to find untouched items. Sadly many people play and tinker with original items.

The screws tell the tale-unmolested...and in super condition too!

The one that normally gets buggered up most often is not even a screw although it looks like one, and everyone tries to unscrew it. The magazine catch lock is slotted and looks like a screw, but is not. Originally this part had just a dimple, then a slot across the dimple, and finally just a slot.
It is released by pushing the magazine release in fully from the left side, and then turning the magazine catch 1/4 turn clockwise to release it. The entire magazine catch assembly will then come out.

I see buggered up examples often

sadly thats because too many collectors "screw" with them.
