10.5 cm leFH 18 Muzzle Break

I am about to pay for a 10.5 cm leFH 18 muzzle break coming from outside the U.S. It is in relic dug condition. Do I need to be concerned about any ATF issues? Thought it best to check before the final closing of the deal.

    Regards,
    Dallas

I'm a bit worried by the fact that the muzzle break is a part for what is classified as a "Destructive Device" under the National Firearms Act. Thus, it may be that you need to get a BATFE import permit (Form 6 if I recall correctly) approved before you bring it in.

You may want to contact the NFA Branch (304-616-4500) and see what they have to say. The phone number I gave is the receptionist so you will probably need to request to speak with a supervisor.

BTW: What do these things sell for?

Good luck and please let us know what you find out on the import process.

That's what got me unsettled. It was going to cost me $2300 shipped. I have nixed the deal, though to me it was nice enough though shipping was high. I know once forms are involved, this will get too complicated for my interest.

That is may be, but the risk doesn't out weigh the need in this case. If anyone is interested, I can provide contact info on the seller if they want to go through the requirements with ATF, etc.

FYI: I spoke with a friend of mine who works for BATFE; his a former (acting) Director of the NFA Branch. He confirmed that you would need to get a Form 6 approved to do the import. The good news is that you don't have to pay any taxes or fees to get the Form 6 approved, but it would slow down the process just a bit.

I was worried that shipping would eat you up on something like this. Wow - $2,300 delivered is a lot. I'm sure it is a neat item, but not $2,300 worth!
