Cardboard case for Walther PPK, help

    Hi all,

Iam not a gun collector at all and just got this empty cardboard case along in a WH officers group.
I wanted to ask for the value of this case as I never had one of these before ?

    Thanks, Jens

There were a slew of Walther PPKs imported here around 10 years ago. Most of them were sold with boxes like this and included a cleaning brush, extra mag and instruction booklet but no attempt had been made to match the serial nos on the boxes to the pistols. I believe these pistols were police surplus.
I would expect a loose box W/O any accessories to bring around $50.

To me, the box looks like a pre-1945 factory box for Walther PPK pistol #793976. Given the source, I would guess that the officer in question likely privately purchased this PPK pistol.

There are some very knowledgeable persons on this forum re: pre-war and wartime PPK's and I feel certain they will offer input. Also, via databases of PPK's maintained by varous collectors/researchers it may be possible to check and see if by chance this particular PPK has survived and is in a modern collection.

This is a very nice item you have and I think it will be of value to dedicated Walther collectors both in the U.S. and in Europe.

Hi and thanks for your interesting infos so far. It would be realy cool to know if that particular weapon survived, although I doubt that since the officer was killed in Russia in 1943. But who knows...

          Thanks, Jens

The value has been lessened quite a bit as the pink cardboard dividing pieces have been removed from the box.

I just looked at the embossed picture on the lid again to see if I could tell whether it's Zella-Mehlis or Ulm which would probably answer the question. However the embossing even under magnification is too faint for me to tell. Perhaps the owner could do an in-hand examination and tell us what he is seeing.

Serial #793976 dates to 1933. Is the name written in the box lid "Vonhard"? Defiantly Zella-Mehlis, the embossed PPK has the 90 degree safety. Walther Ulm used the red "alligator" skin box.

Thanks for letting me know. Great to know it manufacturing year. The name in the box is actually Eberhard. His full name was Adolf Eberhard.
