Imperial German Dapag Flare Pistol with sights

    Hi,

Just posting a pic of my Dapag Flare pistol.

I just have a few questions as I can't find much on the net.

It is an Imperial Hebel style however has sights fitted which look factory.

What is Dapag, maker? Why have sights on a flare pistol unless you want to hit somthing with the projectile?

It has a D.E Cartousche in a circle to the R/H/S, what does that mean?

Open the breach and look closely if you can see a barrel liner visble? Could be a tear gas gun produced for the German police.

Thanks for the input and link!

No barrel liner as far as I can see, don't know if that's good or bad

Could this have been used to fire a projectile like the kampfpistole?

I have been looking around the web a fair bit and I found a reference saying they where used in the Airforce to shoot down baloons however that seems totally probable, however I don't know if it is correct any input or theories would be totally appreciated

Can you cite your reference that suggested these were used in an airforce to shoot balloons.

                Hi,
I had an english falre gun, Webley&Scott, that had sights soldered to it as well. Looked professionally done, but never found out whatfore. I think on the Hebel the only purpose would be the Teargas that JoeW showed here. Other than this I don´t think there is an (official) version with sights.
                Still a very nice piece!

Interesting that Brit's had them too. There must be some concrete evidence somewhere what they are for!

I wish I could post a link to the Baloon theory. If I find it I will!

                  Thanks for the input
