MP40 Introduction question.

Would you have seen any usage of the MP40 during the May 1940 fall Gelb campaign or just the MP38?

Hard to tell. I read that full production of the MP 40 started in July and August. Not sure how many they were making before then.

I think the current consensus is that Steyr started limited MP40 production in early 1940, but the exact dates and numbers are not know. These are marked 660/1940.

I don't recall seeing any in Fall Gelb pictures, but then again, I haven't looked were hard and these early MP40s are somewhat hard to spot, as they have MP38 type (flat) magazine housing, MP38 style muzzle nut and early type single piece cocking handle.

If I recall right, normal (or 2nd) type MP40 series production started in 1941.
