    Questions about Luger

A friend of mine recently found three German handguns in the attick. All of them very well preserved. I haven't seen the other two, but as he wants to sell this Luger, he sent me some pics to get comments. I'm total prophane when it comes to small arms, so please tell me what it is exactly. I think it's made in 1921, it doesn't have any WaA markings on body, but it looks like there's one under the magazine...? He didn't send me any more photos, so I hope some of you experts can tell me something on these.

And his main question: what could be the reasonable price for this piece?

Looks to be a shooter. The finish is gone and it is mixed number parts. In CA it would go for around $7-750.

You are correct that it was made in 1921, and as mentioned it is made of mixed parts. Can't tell if the receiver matches the frame or not.

The commercial serial numbers went into the 90000 serial number range in 1921, and at that time DWM changed the serial number to the military style with a letter suffix. They began the new serial numbers in the i letter block, which was right were the commercial range would have been had the serial numbers used the letter suffix from the beginning of production in 1900.

There was also a separate block of Lugers dated 1920 and 1921 that use the letter suffix.

Could anyone please point out the exact parts which are cobbled together here, because I know nothing about this gun?

All the serial numbers should match, with the small parts having the last two digits of the full serial number. The number on the side of the receiver appears to be 87298, and right beside it the side plate has the last two digits of 80 numbered in the military style, and the numbers that can be seen on the toggle assembly are 59.

We can't see the numbers on the front of the frame or barrel. IF the serial number on the front of the frame and barrel is also 87298, all the small parts should be numbered with a 98.

Hope you are not playing with a loaded weapon.
