    mg42 lafette painting question

Just a quick question, i am in the process of finishing off my mg42 lafette tripod in Ordnance Tan color, does anyone know if the scope mount alluminium block, and the buffer tube were painted aswell, or were they left unpainted? i know during early years they were left green adonized ?, but i am aiming for mid-late war when they were repainted in tan

I do not believe these areas were ever painted.
I just do not recall seeing any today that are.
plus some quality photos I've seen do not show either BUT , these could have been restored as you are doing.

I don't recall seeing them painted either, perhaps because paint would fall off easily. I also wonder if the AA extension bar for the lafette was painted but photo evidence show most of them unpainted or lost it.

        Ali fittings.

Hi,I've left all the anodised fittings unpainted on both the early (grey) and later dunkel gelb painted tripod. The only colour picture I have is a superb picture (in a book)of a DAK lafette in use in which you can clearly see the green unpainted thumb lever on the fire control unit. It also shows the vorsatzfernrohr (periscope) in use. So unless someone out there has a totaly unrestored late war lafette painted in tan or wartime colour photo we will not
know. General opinion is that they were left unpainted.Regards David.

thank you for all the replys so far, i will leave these parts unpainted at the moment, but if evidence shows up with them being painted, i have plenty of Ordnance tan paint left

            Hi

The optic bracket is often found coated in original thin green coating.
