    1940 Dated "42" code K98

    Hey guys,
I recently picked up this very nice 42 Code K98. It is in really good condition and appears to be all correct. All numbers are matching except for the triggerguard and mag floorplate which do match themselves and end in the same two last digits as the rifle's serial number. They are WaA214 marked.
I don't currently have a good k98 book, but did have a couple of questions. Would this rifle originally had a site hood? I was researching online a little and saw one report that said any Mauser rifle made before the byf code would not have a sight hood unless it had been through a war time rebuild.
The front sight does have a WaA655 on it.
Also, any info on the sling would be great. I tried finding out who the maker was to no avail. Only markings are a shield with a "9" and 1941 date.
    Thanks guys!

"42" code is for Mauser Oberndorf. This one is pretty late, hoods started being added late 40 early 41 I think.

P.S. - Nicely marked sling keeper- maker is "Christof Neuner" I think, same maker of P.38 holsters marked with this logo.

      Mike,
thanks for the info. I know that it is a mauser code rifle. It is cut for the hood.

        V. nice rifle in OH! Hoods are rarely Waff'ed and would like to see the E/655 on this one. Congrats

          Bob,
The front sight itself is WaA655 marked facing toward the muzzle. The hood is unmarked.

          Thanks!
