Well used WWI Mills Eagle Snap .45 mag pouch, with two two-tone magazines. Do the magazines look correct, or made up? Thanks in advance.

The magazines look fine. The two tone look was a result of the final tempering process. Colt's WWI magazines were heat blued, and originally the tops of the magazines were tempered prior to being blued. It was found that the heat from the bluing process was removing some of the tempering, so the magazines were first blued, and then tempered. The tempering process involved dipping them in molten cyanide and then quenching them in oil. The cyanide process removed the blueing to the depth they were dipped. This process was used up until 1940.
This tempering process usually left a secondary band or color difference right at the depth the magazine was dipped. The fake two tone magazines have a very sharp line between the bright area and the blue area as they are dipped in a solution to remove the blue.
This is a 1918 pistol magazine. If you look closely you can also see where the magazine base was pinned on. Modern magazines are spot welded on.

This is a slightly earlier version of the Mills magazine pocket. Yours has the woven in puckers at the bottom where this one does not. In 1914 both the rimmed and rimless eagle snaps were used.

A nice set to find , specially today. a friend has a magazine or 2 that were heat treated the Wrong way !! blue at the top ,not the bottom. jeffComment
