    P38 marking

This marking is off a P38 as you can tell. Wondering if anyone has come across this double stamping on another fireman. Not my particular area so to speak, so looking I am for some thoughts.

    Thanks,
    Tony

The markings were applied with a roll die, which may account for the ghost marking. On the first pass the die may not have been adjusted properly, resulting in a marking that was too light.

Double stamps are encountered from time to time. Here is a link to a byf43 police P.38 that has a second stamp. http://lmd-militaria.com/page654.html

It is also interesting to note that the master die was cut with a pantagraph, resulting in the chatter marks and rounded ends of the letters and numbers.

This is a Remington Rand with a double struck acceptance mark, but since this mark was applied by hand someone had to do this on purpose, reason unknown.
