    Rare colt 1905 acp pistol

COLT MODEL 1905 .45 CALIBER ACP PISTOL
PROVED in LONDON with serial number 5924 ..
Also has a number on the grip strap of 3800.

The only information we have on this model 1905 Colt is from " Book of Firearms by Sutherland & Wilson " ,, They say the lanyard Loop is standard on only 2 extremely rare variations : British Military model, around 50 produced, serial range 2400-3400, these have the Birmingham proof marks and were shipped in 1906.. : Springfield Armoury special order, serial range 1-201 ..

I am posting this 1905 Colt for a good friend of mine, we are both hoping there will be a fellow Colt collector out there that can supply more information on this rather rare variation of the Colt auto loading Pistol .. We look forward to any help given .. Thanks ..

    Cheers

With your serial number so near the end of production, and the Model 1911 in the very final stages of development, your receiver with the lanyard loop could have been a left over from one of the previous contracts. Colt did not throw anything away.
It would sure be worth the $100 Colt letter.

It might have been in the same order to Colt's London Agency as this one, the serial number is very close:

Thanks Douglas we appreciate the compliment ,, also thanks to herd118 for the helpful link to the Colt site, there is certainly a lot of great information available there on Colt auto's ..

Johnny, how do we go about asking for one of these $100. Colt letters ?, sounds as though it might be worth while on this one .. If anyone else has one of these lovely old 1905's it certainly would be nice to see an image or two ..

              Cheers

Hello to all Colt collectors out there ,, I brought this one to the top again in the hope of being able to see some images of 1905 Colt Auto loading Pistols that may be in other collectors hands ,, If anyone else has one of these fine pistols or any further information on this contract I would really appreciate hearing from them ..

                  Cheers

The owner of this rare Colt Pistol has asked me to try and find out what the present value of this 1905 would be ,, I guess this question could be best answered by Johnny Peppers or Douglas Jr. but of course I would be pleased to hear others thoughts on value as well ,, Thanks ..

                    Cheers

I have shot or held hundreds of different weapons over the years and I may have only seen examples behind glass. Just by looking at it the way it is I would put it in the fair to good range (condition) because of the finish ware and slight rust pitting. The source I use seems to lump them all in together when pricing them so it is a rough estimate. I would put it in the $1500 to $2500 US. being it is a rarer piece it is sure to bring a tad more. Again this is a rough estimate.

                      Cheers

Thanks Airforce1 for taking the time to check your data and reply,, I appreciate your thoughts on price and condition,, Although condition is not brilliant the pistol is live with matching numbers ,, This one was brought back from the UK many many decades ago ,,

Here in NZ we are really lucky as our " C " class licence allows us to hold unaltered smg's and pistols in our collections ,, We have to jump through a lot of hoops to be licenced but once there well worth the effort

                        Cheers

I think that the rarity of this put the condition factor in a second level when we talk about a price evaluation.

                          just my opinion.

                            Value

I sold a Colt 1905 just like this on Gunbroker about 3-4 years ago for about $1,500. Mine was missing one grip and was not even as nice as this one shown in this trend. Rare Colts indeed.
