    Arisaka 99 rifle value?

I've been offered an Arisaka Type 99 Rifle. It was mfg. in 1942-43 time frame.
Seller states that the Mfg. Plant was destroyed by the Atomic Bomb ...
(so origin must be Nagasaki or Hiroshima plant....)

    He's asking $700.00 and claims:
all original with all matching parts and numbers. It is in excellent condition.

Does that sound reasonable? Sorry no images (yet)
I've also posted this question in the Japanese militaria section!

Does it have dust cover, monopod, and aircraft sites, and is it the crest still there? Even if it has all those parts and it is all matching that is too much IMO. I just sold all mathing t99 for $375.
I do not know how it is there with those rifles but here they are common and not to many people want them. They are slow movers.

I agree with Rajko that the stated price seems high. However, it seems in this area of the country, Japanese rifles that are all original and matching sell very quickly if priced right. I have never seen a common type 99 sell for more than $500.00 locally though.

It sounds from the seller's description that it is a Toyo Kogyo manufactured in Hiroshima. It is my understanding that the plant was not damaged during the bomb drop, but most of the plant's workers were killed forcing it to close. I don't remember my source for reading this so please do take it with a grain of salt.
These rifles are very common and not hard to find. I think the fact that it was manufactured in Hiroshima is often used by sellers to boost the value of the rifle.

Truth is, we would have to see pictures to know what it's worth, but as previously stated, even if it's an early Type 99 short rifle in 100% condition, $700.00 is too much.

Thanks for the input guys. I thought it was a little overpriced.
Mum is intact... Not sure about all the accesories coming with it...so I will ask and see if he'll drop his price!

I can pick up a complete one for less than 300 up here. I have 3 and the most I have paid for one is 130 bucks. 700 dollars is outrageous considering soldiers brought back an estimated 2 million of them back so they are by all means not rare.
