    Buttstock mg 42 genuine?

    Hi all

Is this a genuine buttstock for the mg 42?
So is it made before 1945?

    Thanks for your help!

It is marked '606' (serial number?)

Thomas, Yes this looks original. they went to wood but, it did not last well. the wood split up close to the receiver area. they would add the wire wrap to it to strengthen it (as seen on this one), which sort of worked. BUT then they went back to the bakelite.
ask seller for better photos ,ask if any other markings , including an Waffen amt.( usually on the left side)
I do not believe the post war ones used wood at all , no need to. jeff

Thomas . yes the 606 is the serial number. the photos still not so good.... still might have a waffen amt. if you want it , get it now or it will be gone.
it won't last long. I noticed no cracks to the wood = very good.

              Hi

              Thanks for the reply.

I wanted to buy this one (with serial number 606), because mine perhaps could be a reproduction..

              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...78#post4563378

But now I noticed a WaA one this black bakelite buttstock, so I guess it might be a good one tough..

So I am still thinking to buy the buttstock (606) or not.

              Regards
              Thomas

In an other thread about mg stocks, they talk about stocks with WaA 11.
And mine has also the WaA 11..

So this makes me think that my buttstock could be a good one and a very rare one (no screw).

just saying, it's a good price. my extra wood one looks like it's WaA34 (hard to read). but also marked hvq43.. has the screw , has the wire wrap , but also has 6 cracks !!!!
bought it at a local gun show for $20.00
