    Flare cartridge ID

    Hi guys

I found the following item along with a bunch of German 7.92 casings. It looks like the remains of an oversized shotgun shell.
I am wondering if it is possibly the remains of a German flare, as the diameter is the same as some flares I have, and I have never found any hunting/shotgun ammo like this before while detecting.

Is this a WWII german flare, and is SB a normal marking for German flares?

What my previous picture didnt show was that my flare is very short, as if the main body of it had been made of cardboard (see new photo below, sorry for the poor quality). Is this normal? On the picture Bruno posted, the flares seem 100% made of aluminum/copper/metal.

Did the Germans use these Czech flares a lot?

            Hi again,
It must be an older model made of card box and a brass 'culot' (French word )
I've no picture of this supplier but have some from German manufacturers.. if you want to have a look on them, just tell me.
            Regards.

And to answer your last question, yes, German army use Czech flares as they use their flare guns, guns, amunition and so on..

For instance, a Vz .30 (Czech flare gun) used by ....

The flare gun in the photo is not a Vz-30 flare gun, it is actually an Italian model 00 ( or 1900 ) which was used in WWI and WWII by the italians, and WWII by the Germans.

                  Good Collecting, signalman.

Note the style of Lanyard ! They have been coming up for discussion lately.

Oups... shame on me .... I was abused by the location of the picture...
Anyway... the answer is still the same... about re-use but wrong picture to illustrate it.
I hope you'll forgive my mistake.
                    Regards
