Almost everybody knows about very famous USSR ww2 weapon - PPS43 (750000 were made)
But I want to show you first model of PPS - PPS42. Less then 40000 were produced, almost all were lost during WW2 or destroyed when appear PPS43.
At this moment I consider less then 60-50 left.
Instead PPS42 and PPS43 looks almost similar, there are only few details which are the same
Anybody see this model in private collections? I know few of them could be seen in Finnish museums. Almost all PPS 42 that exists now are known as trainig guns (in few places pieces of metall are cut to show how mechanism is working)

Great loooking gun! PPS-42 is a rare sight indeed, but there are few also in private collections here in Finland.

PS. I think we have much more original PPD-34s down here than those PPS-42s

Aktivisti, i agree with you... It's strange situation why so small quainty of PPS42 are still exists in our days...
You compare it with PPD34. Quantity of produces PPD34 and PPD34\38 was near 8000.
Only in one book we could fond information about quantity of PPS 42 that were produced - 46026. It's not very small quantity. But I don't belive in that exact quantity "46026", because we dont even know start date of production and end date, also there is now information about 2 modifications of PPS42, but they exists. In one documentary film it was said that 46000 - its a quantity of PPS which were produced in Leningrad for some period of 1943 (PPS42&PPS43). But I consider than really quantity of PP42 that were produced is near 32000-33000 (the highest serial which I saw - 30024 - in documentary movie).

I say about 50-60 PPS 42 which are exists now days.

For few years I look for some parts to restore my PPS42, and some information about this gun, also this gun was discussed on few forums.

I found : (also I have photos most of listed guns)

7 PPS 42 in Russia (5 of them in Museums) + few relic PPS 42 in very bad condition

3 PPS 42 in Latvia

9 pps 42 in Ukraine (2 of them are not compelete guns, it's a set of parts)

1 PPS42 in Moldova

Also I heard about 5-6 PPS in Finnish museum.

So totally we have near 25 guns...

Maybe somebode could update this List?

The same situation is with PPS42 magazines - they have different construction, but they fits PPS43 (PPS43 mag don't fit PPS42), so there is no reason to replace them, when PPS43 appeared. So if 40000 PPS42 were produced, each should have at less 3 mags. Now we could see thousands of PPS 43 mags, but no PPS42 mags... Exept those magazines which came with known PPS42 guns(besides some of them are without magazines), I saw near 20mags... Totally we have less then 40 magazines
