Arisaka Stuck Bolt HELP!!

I was given this t38 Arisaka rifle, it's been varnished and pimp shined by the proud vet who hung it on his wall. He must have taken the bolt apart and put it together improperly, it's now stuck in the receiver. It partially functions but it won't go all the way up and allow the bolt to cycle. I've had a bunch of Arisaka rifles over the years and they are so simple that they are foolproof, until now that is. Anyone ever encounter this problem before, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ive had a few where the bolt was "fired" when put into the rifle causing similar problems, if you can get the bolt out look on the bottom and you will see two notches where the bolt twists and locks in,,,there is a projection there that I use the edge of a wooden bench or table,,,hook that projection on the wood, pull and twist slightly move it to the other notch, if that doesnt work the just move it back. Hard to describe this but Im trying

Can you get the safety off?


I had this happen on a Mauser and it was a rock hard bug egg stuck in the luggs..

Thats also a good idea but first run a cleaning rod down the barrel to make certain its not loaded, when cleared put muzzle down onto floor on soft cloth, push down on safety and bolt, and work safety back and forth as you work the bolt handle, sometimes you can even fire it once sear is engaged and free the bolt,,,but CLEAR IT FIRST

This happens sometimes and can be a booger to correct.
I always thought it was a funny feature on a combat weapon as it is easy to do and hard to fix.

I had this happen on a TY99 but with out the safety, it just had the FP.

I could not figure it out.

The fiz was easy (after I figured it out), I was trying to get the pin out, so I put the butt of the gun on the table and pointed the gun up. I pulled the trigger and at the same time wiggled the bolt handle and the pin fell out the bottom and then the bolt turned and came out.

Took me a year to stumble onto that fix..

But this one had no safety on the bolt. The pin was turned and jammed the bolt in the receiver..

Had a similar problem when putting safety bolt back in the wrong position. Try this:

Take the bolt-stop block off the left side of the receiver. This reveals a large hole where you could see into the action. Take a flathead screwdriver to push the cocking lug backwards. When back as far as it will go, push in the safety and twist. The spring and firing pin should pop completely out of the bolt.
