    KAR 88 CALIBER ? i or is

    bought recently a kar 88 numbermatching i am not sure if it is a i or a i s also a modified to the spitz geschoss . a stamp is onto sight with 7,93 also i think this is a modified to the new i s the original rounds are round 88 bulets
    normal a S is aplied on the rifle but here i have found only onder the barell a stamp with a eagle and a S look pics and the modified markings from barel . all opinions that can help are welcom .

          Your best bet is to slug the bore and take measurements. Most likely it is in the original round nose bullet. Do you have more pics of the receiver from the top?

            If it was upgraded for the Spitzer bullet it should have an "S" stamped on the top of the reciever. I suspect it has not been reworked and is still in the original caliber.

              Even "S" modified 88s can have some real potential safety issues when firing .323 8MM ammo. If the bore size checks out ok, I would certainly stick with lower powered 8MM loads.....lighter bullets + reduced powder loads= lower chamber pressure.

                  so your 88 is in 7.92 J caliber (don't shoot 8x57JS ammo with)

                  on a re-barreled one for 8x57JS ammo upu can see the S stamped on the receiver (as SCHUPO wrote)

                    i will look for finding new made 8x57 j rounds i have several from ww 1 but for shoot them never i like them to see in my display .
