How do you differentiate a svt40 bayonet from other WWII russian bayonets? The only ones I have seen are the fixed spike and fixed blade type. The reason I am asking is I have been offered a russian bayonet (looks like a k98 bayonet)dated 1944. Thanks

Tokarev SVT40 bayonet.
Hi Tony, here is mine. The scabbards come in two versions; early and late pattern. This is the early pattern with ball chape. The later pattern does not have the ball and the two halves which form the scabbard are flattened together which form a flange around the bottom couple of inches of the scabbard. The hanger can be webbing, as here, or brown leather which is rivetted in place.
These Arsenal refinshed examples can be now bought in the UK for £70 which is a very good deal.
Cheers, Ade.
