As far as 'New Spec' deacts in the UK goes, this term only applies to Sub-machine guns and Assault rifles, i.e. post 1995 changes in the deactivation laws.

The deactivation requirements never changed for Shotguns, bolt action rifles and Machine Guns such as your MG34 & MG42 etc etc.
    Hi Satcong,

    Sorry that was my mistake.

deact requirements applied to machineguns aswell...pre 95 deact machineguns where you can remove the barrel aswell as fully field strip, post 95 requirements where the barrel is fixed/welded in place, and can only be partially field stripped.

        Deactivation specs

Not true if it were old spec then the flash hider would come off and the receiver would be removable from the barrel jacket. And if it were early old spec the barrel would come out as well ie fully field strippable. Regards jonathan.

yes pre 95, the barrel would come out - post 95 barrel welded in place, partially field strippable, i was only explaining that machineguns were affected by deact specifications aswell.

Yes me too, that is what I thought initially as well, the one that I have got was done in 2006 so can only be partially field stripped.

            All the best, Patty

                  Hi,
A nice piece but I wonder if the guy who stamped the numbers on the top cover noticed he'd put "963" instead of "936"!
Good luck with the rest of it.

Well, not necessarily a mistake but a different maker. "963" has "WaA 4" and the cover maker "936" and two different WaA : 26? and 40?

                      Hi

"963" is the factory code for "bpr" (grossfuss) to mid 1940.
                      the proof:

and confirmed in the very nice book

Grossfuss made the top cover, German army inspection mark for this factory was WaA497 that's why it has been stamped.

then it was a Mauser MG34 factory supplier, when the pop cover arrived at the Mauser factory, a new German army inspection mark has been stamped, WaA26, the Mauser factory one.

so this top cover come from a Mauser-Werke Borsigwalde MG34, and the one you have is a Gustloff-Werke Weimar

                        Hi everyone,

Thanks for that information, I guess that explains the feed tray (bpr) so thank you very much!

                        All the best, Patty

                          AA sight?

                          Hello again everyone,

As promised I have some 'starter' pictures of the aa sight from the seller (I have not actually received the item yet) so I hope you like it, and would anyone be able to tell me if it is genuine?

                          Patty

                          Any feedback is much appreciated!

                            Hello again Patty,

Your AA sight (spider web ring) is original OK but not in too good shape. If you want it to match your MG, I would look for a nicer one.

                              Mg34

Thanks Fab for clearing that one up - "Alles klar!"
I'll have to start comparing WaA numbers on my MG42.
                              Good hunting,

                                AA sight?

                                Hello again everyone,

Thank you for all your help and responses, but would anyone else be able to have a look at the AA sight, and tell me what they think about it?

                                Much appreciated as always, Patty.
