    8MM box of ammo?

    All

I received this box of 8mm ammo yesterday. I know it is for a k98. Can you give me more info? Is it worth anything? It has never been opened and is full of ammo.

I think it is 1940 steel case. $150..

Von Kleist is correct. It is standard ball ammo with lacquered steel cases. The components were made in 1939 and 1940 and then assembled into completed ammo in 1940.

Value is going to depend on who is buying it and how much they want it. I would say the Von Kleist's estimate is a minimum for an interested buyer.

        Leon,

I value it a little less than brass.

          Hi Von Kleist,

The value is certainly based on what a buyer will pay. That sleeve holds 20 boxes of ammo. At $150 for the sleeve, that means each box is worth $7.50 not counting the value of the cardboard sleeve itself. That seems too little to me but I have always been willing to pay more for nice ammo than some. It also depends on what part of the country you are in. In the Dallas area, $15 for a nice box of German 8mm steel cased ammo is a very good deal.

          Regards, Leon

so it's the ammo that is worth so much or is the collectible value of the original box?

Most people wont break apart the box.

There was a full crate of 9mm at the sos for something like $5k. It didn't sell that I know of.

I see these all the time at the big shows. I paid $100 for early brass which was a good deal. $150 for smk on line..

It seems like anything close to $200 and it sits. Being steel wont help I'm sure..

Loose, these 15 round boxes are a hard sell over $10.

Just letting you know what I have seen at the shows and on line..

Just my opinion, but it is the combination of the two. The original sealed sleeve of ammo is the collectible, not the ammo or the sleeve by themselves. Open the sleeve and the ammo is just ammo; sell the ammo and you just have an empty sleeve. It would make a great addition to a WWII German rifle collection.

                  Hi Johnny,

Generally, what you say is true but there are some places where they can't receive live ammo shipments so an empty sleeve is a collectible for them.

                  Hi slong,

I was using the individual box comparision to try to show the possible value. The sleeve is most likely worth more intact.

                  Regards, Leon

If someone is willing to pay the value of the sealed sleeve for the empty sleeve, that would certainly be true. Otherwise it is better left intact.

Keep in mind they are set up at the SOS as well..
They sell to Europe and get those prices..

I've paid $30 for the empty battle pack..

$150 is a fair price if you want to sell it. If not put it up here for $250 and see where it goes..
                        Its in great condition!!

OK here's the kicker I have access two large pallets full of these boxes. I would guess 50 to 75 boxes.

                            That is a kicker

Are they all marked the same as this one?
If not you could have some interesting 8mm mixed in there..

See, if you want to move all of them, it might take a while..
