Model of 1911 U.S. Navy

Found this one at the Tulsa show. An 11 acre show and the collector with the table next to ours had it for sale. My lucky day.
The pistol was shipped August 16, 1913 to the U.S. Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York. The Navy marking was dropped in 1915, with slightly over 15,000 pistols being so marked. After the Navy marking was dropped, all Model of 1911 pistols were marked MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY regardless of who they were shipped to.

That is a beautiful pistol. Can we get some more pictures of the top of the slide and of the magazine by chance? Maybe a couple other photos. That is a beautiful pistol. If I may ask, what did you give for it?

In Bady's Colt Automatic Pistols it is stated in error that the pistols shipped to the USMC were so marked, and the fakers delivered pistols marked MODEL OF 1911 U.S.M.C.

I haven't seen one marked Model 1911 of USMC, but I have seen them marked Model 1911 of U.S. Marine Corps. But anything can be faked. I ain't wealthy enough to actually see a Marine Corps one or even a Navy one in person. But I love my Army model . There is just something to these old WW1 handguns that makes you feel like you're there. mine makes me feel like I'm running across "No Man's Land" and jumping into an enemy trench and running through clearing the way. If these old pistols ain't art, what is?

Navy marked 1911's are tough to find! As you said, the numbers of them made were low, and because of they were made before 1915 very tough to find these days, especially in such good condition!
