    mauser pistol

    Hello!!

One friend of me have this mauser pistol.

Originally it came with beech wood holster instead of walnut.

Can anybody tell me the aproximate date of production and the model?
    Maybe model 1912?

    Thank you

Buffed. Just saying as it will detract from collectors value.

capazo, you need to mention the serial number.... hard to see in the photo. from this I might be able to find the time frame. others might want to see a photo of the stock also , if you can.
not everyone has one & newer collectors may have never seen one. all in all looks very nice. any import marks ?? many were sold to china. jeff h.

        Serial number 1365xx

Not import marks, only german stamps.

When I went to my friend's house I will take more pictures

            Hi,

I don't think that this gun was reblued, but I was cheated before when giving an opinion based solely on photos, so I will stick to the serail number question.

            Well, there are two scenarios.

First, if the gun is chambered to the 7,63 mm Mauser (which I believe it is the case), then you have what is called Standard Pre-War Commercial and it serial number puts it as made around 1910-11.

On the other hand, if chambered to the 9mm Luger, then you have a Red Nine (a.k.a. Model 1916). As you may know these pistols were part of a 150,000 pistols contract made to the German Imperial Army at the height of WWI. As the highest serial number reported to this variation is around 141000, I would date it as made in 1918.

Tha major difference between both variations, besides the caliber, is the rear sight (from 50 to 1000 meters on the 7,63mm versus 50-500 on the 9mm). You could also check the Imperial military acceptance proofs, that I'm not seeing in this pistol. Not to mention the "Red Nine" grips that should be expected in a late war gun.

All said, my guess is the first alternative.

Good response above. Considering where the original poster is located; I'm somewhat surprised he didn't come up with one of the Spanish knock off examples made there.

How about some pictures of the left side of the gun?

Maybe just the pictures, but it sure looks polished and salt blued.

I agree.... Hopefully more pictures will prove us wrong.

Hard to say from these pics, but commercial pre-war Broomhandles in 7,63 Mausers do have most stunning blue on them. Trigger, safety, bolt cross-bolt and range setting plate on the other hand should have nice case hardened finish on them - if not, then its reblued for sure.

This gun only shot one time since it was made. Is totally new... but has near 100 years.

It may be new and only shot one time, but in addition to what appears to be a buffed an hot blue salt finish, the metal shows some inconsistencies.
The rounded area at the front edge of the magazine is no longer straight, and the metal right ahead and under the sight pin has a large ding.
