    Buying an MP40 Today- need help!

    Hey guys,

    was offered a fully dewat MP40 for just over a thousand missing the fold down stock. I was wondering if there was any sure way to tell of authenticity or not regarding parts and stamps. Are the handles always bakilight? Is there a good resource online? I ask this because I was sure about it until I picked up a toy Japanese MP40 from 1968 MGC and it looks almost the same. I posted this earlier on the forum but am now going up to see it, I might just take pictures to show you guys later.

        The hole where the missing stock would attach does not look like a real MP40 (the notches inside). Compare to the photo on Bergflak's estand post http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru....php?p=4495507

          Thanks guys, aside from the hole where the stock goes what looks wrong with it? I called the seller and he says it is stamped "MP40" on top and also had other markings. I may see him tommorow, otherwise I will post pictures tonight if I can find him. Thanks again

              you guys are going to love this:

              I went and saw the gun, it looked near identical to my MGC 68. When I turned it over it said "Made In Japan"... as well as MGC 68. he told me alot of MP40's were made in Japan and after that it wasn't really for me

                    The worst part was that he genuinely thought it was original, even though he had other good german helmets and should have known better! Interestingly, whoever sold it to him put an original MP40 waffen marked magazine with it as well as a period strap.

                      Mp40

                      I know the guy that had it for sale....at a Gun Show here in Calgary......took a look at it and I kept moving......... He usually tries to sell other WW2 German Militaria. I prefer not to waste my time looking at his table.

                            Whats also funny is that Japan didn't even have a SMG in production until very late in the war themselves!!
