How do you tell if a 2nd model luger snail drum is real or fake? Is there any web sites to look at fake ones? I have a chance to buy one for 800dollars and it is in 80 percent condition. Thanks in advance

The answer to your first question is too involved for me to address here. You will really need a lot of good photos of both fake and original or have both side by side in person to learn the differences. See the thread about 10 below this one.

As for the second part of your question, anyone who knows what they have and the current market value will be asking $1200+ for good ones. Genrally they run closer to $1500 plus or minus and this is not for near mint ones or ones with dust covers.....but any of us can always luck out on a deal.

In my experience these 2nd types have been priced about same as fair condition common Lugers or about 2/3 the price of really nice condition common Lugers since I have been collecting.....I still see this same proportion to the value.
