Anybody have any information about this? Someone said that the date do not match on the Lugger. Any idea?
Thank you for your feedback. JME

              Luger

Not being a Luger expert, but "S42" is a pre-war code for Mauser.
I used to own a 1940-dated "42" code Mauser-made K98k so I can see where the confusion arises!

There is only one date on your Luger, so there is nothing else for it to match. Maybe they think the S/42 is a date, which it isn't. It's the manufacturer code for Mauser.

Well the two mags, tool and holster would sell pretty quickly for a total of at least $700......so I would think that the Luger alone, even without a mag would sell for well over 1k based on the prices that I have been seeing....at least I would pay more than that.

The straps on the holster have been modified. I don't believe the holster will bring top dollar.

Assuming you are in the USA, look at Gunbroker.com for what other guns like it sold for. I think it could be worth a bit more.

I have a 1938 S42 i believe ....it was captured by a BOB member, and i got it from his son. I paid 1500. for it , all matching numbers, about the same condition... but be sure the bore is nice, as that effects its value . You can't lose to go as high as i paid, but if its through a private seller whose family member brought it back, make sure and get all the soldiers information, dog tag number and whatever else he tells you about it from the family member to keep with the gun....I see others selling them for more at times, but they aren't selling s easily now with inflation as it is, and money tight across the country, not to mention the world. Good luck, and always barter some when you can , or just buy it if you want it that badly. Prices i quoted are for working guns that shoot, and not a deactivated pistol.(watch to make sure it hasn't been touched up with bluing,or reblued as the photos are so bad, the finish cant be seen properly, if so, half what i said for everything)

It could be the photos but it appears to me that this pistol is refinished.

I think the same thing. Better photos are certainly needed to decide for sure, but it just looks too uniform.
