Smith & Wesson Model 1917, sometimes called the ".45 Hand Ejector Model of 1917", this example was made in 1918.

Looks to me like a S&W hand ejector second model in 45 cal. Approx. 34,624 made between 1915 and 37. between 475., and 1,250 usd. This is chambered in .45 cal Come in 4" 5" 6" and 6.5" barrells ....other aspects can effect values, but id say 500. is fair, what do they want for this one by chance? If it were a 38-40 cal, it would change drasticly in value.

As someone else said, it is the Model of 1917 Revolver. The military contracted with both Colt and S&W to make a pistol that would fire the .45 ACP cartridge, as the number of Model 1911 pistols needed could not be met. The .45 ACP cartridges were held in "half moon" clips so that they would all eject at the same time.
Between October of 1917 and January of 1919, Smith & Wesson delivered almost 164,000 of the big pistols to the U.S. Military. They were serial numbered from 1 up.
Is the frame as pink as it appears in your picture?
