It is an early 1937 dated Model "L" flaregun. Manufactured by Ecko ( EMIL ECKOLDT ), and Luftwaffe proofed. This is a difficult to find, early variation of the Model "L"

      My example is serial # 2783, and I have a parts junker # 2559

What is the serial number of your example

That's a rather early "Flieger-Leuchtpistole Typ L" as used by the Luftwaffe (in dire need of a good cleaning).

Looks like 1937 with oval EcKo trade mark and LW acceptance stamp.

Fl.24483 is the Luftwaffe stock number for Type L. These typically go for a 500-700€ here in Europe, but look in the Google for US prices.

What is the other item in the pictures? Could this be a bracket to store the pistol on a wall/fuselage? I have never seen one before.

DO NOT CLEAN THE PISTOL, too often a collector will ruin the fragile finish.

Sorry, duh...serial number is on the other side...I hope to have this thing over the next week...right now its not in my hands. I have looked for US prices to no avail...one place had a really beat up one for 280.00 (back in 2004)...this one has the mounting bracket too and the condition looks nice just dirty. I will not clean this. I do not 'molest' items I plan to resell.
Thanks to all of you for your time!

Normal cleaning and oiling will preserve that pistol.

Okay gentlemen, some more info and photos here...the gun is serial number 3183...it is aluminum or some other non-magnetic material. The bracket is marked 'wfg 76?' and 0301...proofs of some sort....but seriously....when was the last time anyone saw one of these with the bracket? I have no idea how to price this item...no cracks, no scratches just dusty and needing a cleaning...the owner will not just give it to me, he knows it has some value....to everyone who has PM'd me with interest, feel free to let me know what its worth.

                          Thanks a bunch guys!

Hello, Yes, the bracket is very nice. Each type of aircraft had its own method, or more than one method of mounting or holding flare pistols.

I thank you for the serial number, it is important for the research. Just looking forward to other photo angles on the flare pistol.

                            Good Collecting, signalman
