    My new toy: SVT 40

Hi Guys, I have mentioned before that I was hoping to buy an SVT 40. Well, I finally got it yesterday . I have wanted one of these for years. Not a shooter of course due to where I live, but I am still happy to have it.

The rifle is a Tula made example and is an Arsenal re-work so it is very pretty

    Cheers, Ade.

Markings to the breech of the makers mark (star) for Tula arsenal and the date of 1942.

I also obtained a bayonet for the rifle. These are again arsenal refinished and so are mint. These have always been scarce in the UK.

Bayonet out of scabbard. I even had a choise of early or later production scabbards.

                Kindest

                Regards

P.s How much would one of these set you back these days?

Hi Mark, glad you like it. The numbers are all matching, but the bolt carrier is eletric pencil numbered to the gun, which is typical for a Russian re-work. I paid a very resonable £300 for the pair as I got a five pound discount. The price breaks down as £235 for the SVT and £70 for the bayonet. I am awaiting a cleaning kit and some spare mags.

                  Cheers, Ade.

Beautiful. I've always liked the look of the SVT40, but never bought one. Were they a semi-auto only weapon, or were they full-automatic? A few years ago, I saw one for sale that was full automatic, but I never figured out if it was original or some sort of later conversion to full-auto.

Hi Jeff, here is a link that explains all The SVT 40 was semi auto only but full auto self loaders did exist and are now rare.

I had never heard of a field made SVT 40 "carbine version" until I read that site. Now I would like to own one of these too.

                      Cheers, Ade.

Very nice SVT! I really like the dark stock on your rifle. If I remember correctly, I believe the full auto rifles were known as the AVT. Congratulations on a great find on the rifle and bayonet!

                          Adrian,
That is the nicest SVT 40 I've seen! I almost bought won a few months ago, but that one was all beat to h*ll.
I understand that the Germans were fond of these things--perhaps even fonder of them than the Russians were.
                          Thanks for sharing.

                            Ade,

Where did you get the bayonet? I've wanted one for years to complete my SVT 40 but they have always been too expensive! More expensive that my rifle.

                            Best regards.

Hi Guys, thanks for the comments. I bought the rifle and bayonet from "Ryton Arms" here in the UK. I and a comrade from "2nd Guards Rifle" went to the sellers home to buy several rifles and bayonets for our group. Mr Budge and his wife made us very welcome. We were spoilt for choise. He has rifles with various dates, '41, '42, '43 and with early (like mine) or later pattern flash hiders with the two large slots. He had a carrier bag full of bayonets Many UK dealers have been trying to buy these from him.. There are both early and later pattern scabbards. Some have webbing belt loops others have erzsatz leather.

Tony hopes to have a new shipment of some more SVT 40's complete with scope rails

If anyone makes a purchase from Tony, please mention my name

                              Cheers, Ade.
