    Colt 1911 mfg 1918

Picked this up today along with a winchester 1873 lever action, tough to find a nicer one, blue is starting to get that nice brown look in a few spots, came with two dual tone mags aswell.

What are the markings on top of the chamber? Should be a vertical H P.
    Nice pistol.

Barrel may have been changed. The post WWI and WWII barrel markings are not visible until the barrel is removed.

Almost any Colt 1911 of WW I vintage that wasn't "liberated" during the War or shortly therafter and which remained in government service went through some type of arsenal rebuild. At that time any worn parts were routinely replaced so finding one of this vintage with replacement parts is not unusual. Very nice find!

You are correct, but the question was to determine if the barrel was original to the pistol. Since the pistol still has the original finish and grips, as well as the original type magazines it is highly unlikely that it ever went back for rebuild.
There was a directive early in WWII to discontinue the use of the two tone magazines as there was a problem with some of the magazines not locking the slide back when the last shot in the magazine was fired.

Very nice find! How 'bout the Winchester? I love old Winchesters as well! 1873 is of course one of my favorites!

Man, that is a great 1911. A good score for your collection.
